Day 12

Today I declared a Forest Academy holiday. We are taking a three day weekend. We will read our book assignment and get dressed (maybe), but we are not going to adhere to a school day schedule.  I’ve decided that the book I’m reading needs to be finished today, and that I want to bake cookies. These things will take time and attention that would normally be focused on homeschooling. So, no school today.  School’s out for the weekend. We are tapping out!

To be fair, we jumped right into school mode when everything shut down.  Most schools were on spring break when schools were let out, so students didn’t have assignments or really any at home school details. We hit the ground running. Our spring break is scheduled for the week of Easter, and I doubt we will be observing that break in any meaningful way.

AND my birthday is tomorrow. I’m trying very hard not to pout about this fact.  Terry and Arden’s birthdays were in January and both of them got cool trips for their gifts. Granted, they had milestone birthdays that were being celebrated (50 and 10) and I’m only turning 44.  But my big plan for my birthday is to drive over to Burlington to pick up my Wal-Mart order. So, I’m giving myself the gift of not doing math and science today. I say NO to fractions and volcanoes. NO!

We were super productive yesterday. We did nearly everything on our schedule – math, reading, social studies and art. I wanted to show you the results of our Random Canvas project. These two paintings really demonstrate the differences in personalities between Arden and me.

I asked Arden why she chose to do her painting this way, and she said that she thought it would be cool if the lines showed through the paint.  She didn’t want to try to paint in the lines. Me? I spent 2 hours making sure I stayed in every line. I’m not sure if I’m excited or nervous about her free spirited approach.  Is this a vision of things to come? Lord, help us.

Finally, a couple pictures of our two cats. Quarantine has clearly stressed them out and is keeping them up at night.  Honestly, our pets are living their best lives right now. We are home all day and they get fed a lot more than usual (we all are getting fed a lot more than usual!). Oh to be able to be this relaxed during this time!
